Berlin wzywa Trumpa do wysłuchania Polski i uniknięcia popełniania błędów Niemiec.
Bearbock, together with the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, participated in a panel discussion during the Munich Security Conference on Saturday. At one point, Sikorski was asked what he would say to President Donald Trump.
„If Putin succeeds in subjugating Ukraine, it will send a signal to China that it can reclaim what it considers a rebellious province. This would have direct consequences for the US strategy and alliance system, and possibly for the future of Taiwan,” Sikorski assessed.
„The end of the war in Ukraine will determine the credibility of the United States, not just the administration of Donald Trump,” he emphasized.
In response to the same question, the German Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Trump should listen to Poland and not repeat the mistake of Germany, which did not carefully listen to Warsaw’s warnings about the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
During the panel at the Munich Security Conference, Sikorski also addressed security guarantees for Kyiv. He noted that „Ukraine already has security guarantees, which have proven to be empty.” He recalled that Kyiv got rid of its nuclear arsenal in exchange for security guarantees. He argued that in international relations, „there is nothing more dangerous than an empty guarantee.”
„If we want to provide guarantees, we must take this seriously,” Sikorski emphasized.
The discussion during the panel highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between Poland, the United States, and other allies in addressing security challenges in Europe and beyond. The speakers stressed the need for a united approach to counter threats and uphold the principles of democracy and international law.
Overall, the panel provided a platform for a robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on key security issues facing the international community. It underscored the need for continued dialogue and collaboration to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the world.
