Leavitt highlighted during Tuesday’s press briefing the number of offers received by the USA as an example of President Trump’s successful approach to tariffs and the progress being made. She suggested that despite skepticism from experts, the administration will be able to reach trade agreements before the suspension of some tariffs expires on July 9th.
The spokesperson also relayed a message from President Trump that he is „preparing the ground” for a deal with China, expressing hope that the two superpowers will soon reach an agreement and lower the 145% and 125% tariffs.
„We feel that all parties involved want to reach an agreement, so the ball is rolling in the right direction,” she said.

However, he also suggested that the current state of affairs and the astronomical tariffs cannot be sustained for a prolonged period. Bessent reportedly stated that the USA’s intention is not to decouple from China economically, although the current level of tariffs effectively amounts to an embargo on Chinese products.
