Eli Szarabi, Ohad Ben Ami and Or Lewi were released during a „ceremony” organized by Hamas in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central part of the Gaza Strip. Masked and armed fighters brought them on stage, where the kidnapped were forced to deliver propaganda speeches and pose for photos with representatives of Hamas. Clearly emaciated hostages wore uniforms resembling prisoners’ clothing and also held up „certificates” confirming their release.

„We will not leave this unanswered”

The Israeli military confirmed that the kidnapped have been retrieved by the Red Cross and the three men will soon return to their homeland. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, currently on a visit to the USA, announced that the Israeli government will not leave the „shocking” treatment of the released hostages unanswered.

Released Israelis 56-year-old Ben Ami and 52-year-old Szarabi were abducted from the kibbutz of Be’eri, located near the border with the Gaza Strip, where Hamas fighters killed over 130 people on October 7, 2023, and destroyed the settlement. Ben Ami was kidnapped along with his wife, who was released during a brief ceasefire in November 2023. Szarabi’s wife and two teenage daughters were killed during the attack. 34-year-old Lewi was abducted from the Supernova music festival, which took place near the kibbutz of Reim on the border with the Gaza Strip. Terrrorists killed Lewi’s wife during the attack.
