Konsultacje dotyczące unijnego budżetu na 2026 rok – polscy negocjatorzy na czele

Andrzej Halicki, Bartosz Arłukowicz, and Dorota Niedziela appeared in a short video posted on Wednesday on the X platform. Andrzej Halicki, representing the budget committee of the European Parliament, reminded that on April 2nd, the chamber adopted the outlines of the EU budget for 2026.

Negotiations have begun

He informed that on Wednesday, the three institutions of the European Union – the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the Council – have started negotiations on this matter. „We have the strength,” acknowledged MEP Andrzej Halicki. „It will be fine,” added Bartosz.

Expenses and revenues

The annual budget of the European Union defines all expenses and revenues for one year within the so-called seven-year financial perspective. The outlines adopted by the European Parliament on April 2nd are to serve as guidelines for the European Commission, which is responsible for preparing annual budget projects.

The project for 2026 will be presented in June this year. It will then have to be agreed upon by the European Parliament and the EU Council by the end of the year. Poland currently holds the presidency of the Council, while Denmark will take over in the second half of the year.

Budget outlines

The spending possibilities in the budget for 2026 will be heavily limited as it will be the penultimate budget in the financial perspective for the years 2021-2027. However, in the outlines for the budget, Members of the European Parliament emphasized that „in the face of significant geopolitical changes and worsening effects of climate change, the EU budget still plays a key role in ensuring stability for Europeans, supporting established policies, and implementing strategic priorities such as defense and security.”

„We have a duty to defend the rights of citizens”. New spokesperson takes office.
