Nabytek niesamowitej sztuki zdobyty za grosze na pchlim targu
Bologne newspaper „Il Resto del Carlino” has recently announced a remarkable discovery, which is considered to be one of the most significant in the art world. The painting was purchased 15 years ago at a flea market by Paolo Guzzini, a collector and art enthusiast from Marche.
The artwork was unsigned, with only a stamp on the back belonging to a store that supplied artists in Paris’ Montmartre at the beginning of the last century. Guzzini followed this lead and sought the expertise of specialists to determine its authorship.
The Modigliani archive in Rome confirmed that the painting was indeed created by the renowned artist. Experts identified the subject as Mario Cavalieri, a friend of the painter from Livorno whom he met in Venice and who hosted him in his youth.
Modigliani in Paris began his career by painting portraits of friends and acquaintances. The discovered work would therefore be one of his early paintings after arriving in Paris. The portrait remains in Guzzini’s collection, and it is estimated that it could fetch millions of euros at auction. Modigliani’s works are highly sought after, especially his portraits of women with elongated necks.
Modigliani passed away on January 24, 1920, at the age of 35 due to meningitis, exacerbated by his long-term drug use and alcoholism. Recently, Johnny Depp directed a film called „Modi,” which depicts the turbulent life and death of this extraordinary painter.
This sensational discovery has sparked great excitement in the art world, with many experts now eagerly anticipating the unveiling of this valuable piece at a future auction. The popularity and demand for Modigliani’s works continue to grow, making any new discoveries a rare and highly anticipated event for art enthusiasts worldwide.
