Niemowlę zostawione w oknie życia w Mikołowie – poruszający list matki

Caritas Archdiocese of Katowice announced that a baby girl was found on Tuesday in the window of life at the Mercy of God Center for People with Disabilities. She was examined on the spot and then transferred to the hospital for further observation and care. As always, when a child is found in the window of life, the police were called. „We are conducting identification activities (…) I would like to emphasize that the mother is not facing criminal responsibility, but we need to verify if there was no crime, for example, if the child was not abducted or if the mother was not forced to give up the child, etc.” – said asp. Ewa Sikora, acting spokesperson for the Police Headquarters in Mikołów. She added that a letter was found with the girl, in which the mother wrote that the decision to give the child to the window of life was one of the most difficult in her life.

Windows of life are specially prepared places where mothers who cannot or do not want to care for their newborn babies can leave them in a safe and anonymous way. The windows are open 24 hours a day. There are about 70 of them in Poland.

There are five windows of life within the archdiocese of Katowice: two in Katowice and one each in Mikołów, Piekary Śląskie, and Jastrzębie-Zdrój. The purpose of these windows is to provide a safe and secure option for mothers who find themselves in difficult situations and are unable to care for their babies.

The discovery of a child in the window of life is always a sensitive and complex situation that requires careful handling and investigation. It is important to ensure the well-being and safety of the child, as well as to provide support and assistance to the mother, who may be facing challenging circumstances.

The existence of windows of life serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, understanding, and support for mothers who may be struggling or in crisis. It is a testament to the commitment to protecting the lives and well-being of vulnerable children and providing them with the care and support they need.
