Tragedia w Nowym Jorku: Śmigłowiec spadł do rzeki, są ofiary śmiertelne
Adams revealed that there were six people on board the Bell 206 helicopter – a family of five tourists from Spain and the pilot. They were flying from New Jersey to New York City. The crash occurred around 3:17 p.m. local time. CBS News reported that witnesses heard a loud noise accompanying the helicopter crashing into the water near the Holland Tunnel in Hoboken. There were also reports of helicopter parts in two different locations.
The helicopter plunged into the river off the coast of New Jersey. Speaking at a press conference on the other side of the river, in Manhattan, Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the deaths of six people. He added that all of them were recovered from the water. „Three adults and three children, a family from Spain and the pilot, have died. Their bodies have been recovered. Our thoughts are with the families of those on board and all six who were on board the helicopter,” Adams said. Both the mayor and the police and other emergency services officials around him stressed that an investigation is ongoing, the cause of the crash is unknown, and all reports are preliminary.
„NYPD aviation, port, divers, and patrols all responded to the call. Our first units arrived at the scene within minutes. Our NYPD divers entered the water along with FDNY, Port Authority, and various New Jersey agencies,” said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. She added that NYPD divers rescued four people from the crash site, while FDNY divers pulled out two more.
„Rescue operations immediately took place on boats at the scene and on the nearby dock. Four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and two more were transported to local hospitals, where unfortunately they both succumbed to their injuries,” Tisch explained.
The names of the victims have been withheld at this time, pending notification to their families. The FBI is conducting a preliminary investigation.
