Global Media Forum in Bonn has commenced – a conference organized by Deutsche Welle that has gathered nearly 2000 people from all over the world: politicians, activists, journalists – including those from the Polish Television – to discuss the modern world of media. The event is held under the motto „sharing solutions”. Baerbock delivered a speech at the Bundeshaus, the old German parliament where the Federal Republic of Germany used to convene, and for a few years after the reunification of Germany – until 1999. In her address, the German Foreign Minister referred to the largest elections in the democratic world – in India. She highlighted the need to ensure that the technologies used in media, as well as in electoral campaigns, „do not distort reality”. Baerbock refers to the unprecedented AI Act – During the electoral campaign, candidates delivered speeches that were translated into 14 languages by artificial intelligence. Artificially generated voices called voters to promote the candidates. Artificial intelligence undoubtedly offers tremendous opportunities for people to voice their opinions, but in India, we also saw hundreds of fake news stories that emerged during the electoral campaign – said Annalena Baerbock. In her opinion, new technologies open up a new field for disinformation and undermine trust in democratic institutions, as well as the independence of journalists. – We must rethink how we will deal with this situation. Just as we did with the internet, which has such a large positive impact. We must be prepared – she emphasized. The German diplomat also referred to the European Council’s act in May of this year regarding artificial intelligence – the AI Act. This is the world’s first such document. MEPs will continue to work on its specific provisions together with the EU Council and the European Commission.
